The 10th Duchess Of York Charity Golf Day in aid of PCaSO, held on Monday 11th July at Dummer Golf Club, was indeed a success this year, not least because Bob Watson had kindly arranged for the best Golfing weather to be available on the day.
The golf competition started with a sunny ‘Shotgun Start’ at 9.30 am sharp, after a small change to the officially published Start Time of 10am.
The Half-way hut was suitably well stocked with drinks and goodies, kindly sponsored by:- Ringwood Brewery, Vanessa Gardiner – who had supplied some wonderful home-baked cookies, biscuits and cakes, and Bob and Pat Watson who had provided snacks and soft drinks. The Halfway Hut Management Team, of John Harmer and David Childs-Hopkins did a sterling job, and made sure the beer was kept ‘drinkable’, and David Smith played “David Bailey” for the day and took all of the Golf Team Photos. Well done David!
After the eighteen holes of golf, came a splendid two course Buffet with a cheese platter option, and the 19th Hole – the bar - was suitably busy.
The PCaSO raffle, which was very well set up by Mike Hollingworth and David Smith, was drawn, and a big thank you must go to all of you who so generously gave so many raffle prizes, which included Golf Lessons given by the Golf Pro’s at Dummer Golf Club.
The ‘On Course Fines” section followed this, and Bob Watson made sure everybody paid at least one fine. Some had to pay a small fortune! Anything from playing air shots, putting balls in the water or out of bounds, throwing clubs, kicking their golf bags, swearing at the golf ball, to one fine for any man wearing any item of Pink clothing! This ‘On Course Fines’ section raised a substantial amount of money for the cause, and had many a team mate laughing and jeering at their colleagues expense!.
Prize giving was started by Bob Watson and Mike Hollingworth presenting the spot prizes :- Nearest The Pin-Hole 5: Mike Evans, Nearest the pin in two-Hole 11: Nick Plowright (of Ringwood Brewery), Straightest Drive-Hole 8: Paul Ellis, Longest Drive-Hole 13: Harry Harmon (The youngest Member of Andrew Ferguson’s Team) with a massive shot that any professional Golfer would envy! We found out that Andrew’s Team had been coached along by a fifth member of the team – who was actually a Cricket Coach! It seemed to have worked in Harry Harmon’s case.
The Barry Shoubridge Salver for Third Prize, was won by Cliff Rush, Neil Cotton, Philip Mitchell, and Keith Stocker, with a score of 115 points. The Salver was presented to the team by Mrs. Margaret Shoubridge.
The Jim Stansfeld Cup for Second Prize, was won by Dean Milner, Tony Bowes, Andy Burrowes and James Watt, with a score of 121 points. The Jim Stansfeld Cup was presented to the team by Mrs. Anne Stansfeld.
The Duchess Of York Trophy, the first prize, was won by Gary Seymour, John Holt, Kier Trevors, and Darren Shaw with a great score of 124 points. The prize was presented to the winners by Mrs. Susan Ferguson.
Bouquets were then presented by Mike Hollingworth to all of the Lady Presenters, and Vanessa Gardiner of Dummer Golf Club, and this was followed by a wonderful closing speech by Mike.
All the Prize Presentation Photos were very professionally taken by David Smith.
A very successful day for PCaSO.”
